The National Weather Service has upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning Wednesday night for Lake Tahoe where as much as 2 feet of snow is possible on the mountaintops over the next few days.
Service forecasters in Reno said Tuesday afternoon they issued the warning due to increased certainty over the storm pattern.
The warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 4 a.m. Friday for an area including Incline Village, Nevada and Truckee and South Lake Tahoe, California.
Up to a foot of snow is expected in the mountains with 2 feet or more above elevations of 7,000 feet into Friday.
Up to 3 feet is possible in the highest elevations further south from Bridgeport to Mammoth Lakes, California.
Travel is highly discouraged in areas where the warning is in effect.
Forecasters are expecting snow covered roads and gusty winds that will cause near white our conditions.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday night for elevations over 6000 ft. There is now a Winter Storm Warning in effect Wednesday night through very early Friday morning for areas above 4000 ft . Travel will be dangerous during these times. #cawx pic.twitter.com/EQ0Xdt1wQg— NWS Sacramento (@NWSSacramento) November 27, 2018
