(KRON) This storm is shaping up as the biggest snowstorm to hit the central Sierra in two years. The National Weather Service expects 2 to 3 feet of snow will fall on the highest peaks overlooking Lake Tahoe. At lake level, near Tahoe City, forecasters predict 8 to 16 inches of snow.

Northstar said it received at least four inches of snow early Thursday. The Northern Sierra is expected to get a break from the snow on Saturday, and then storms are expected to continue on Sunday.

Here is some chain information from the CHP:

  • I-80 is R2 from Cisco Grove to Truckee in both directions.

    Trucks are minimum.

  • SR-89 is R2 from Picketts Junction to Bliss State Park.

    R1 from Tahoe City to I-80.

  • SR-267 is R1 Truckee to Kings Beach.
  • SR-28 is R1 from Tahoe City to State Line.
  • US50 is twin bridges to Meyers.
