After 7 long years, Stockton Street near Union Square will finally reopen today.

It was closed during construction on the Central Subway, which took a bit longer than expected.

Businesses in the area are relieved to have construction on Stockton Street done, as it was nonstop dust and noise for 7 years during the Central Subway Project.

This will not only be aesthetically pleasing to people who work and shop in the area, but it will also allow drivers to use Stockton Street again.

On Monday, Muni’s 8 and 91 routes will resume.

Construction of the Central Subway is a year behind schedule.

While work is done on the street level, crews are still finalizing the new stations underground.

During construction, crews opened up Stockton Street for the Winter Walk Celebration, allowing people to walk through and enjoy different vendors and performances — but now that the street is opening back up, that will need a new location.

The entire Central Subway Project should be done in December.
