BERKELEY (KRON) — Police at the University of California at Berkeley have noticed a spike of golf cart thefts on campus, authorities announced Monday.
Most golf cart thefts are crimes of opportunity, police say, but can result in a felony charge even if the cart isn’t taken far.
In light of the rash of golf cart thefts, University police would like to remind residents of these crime prevention tips:
- Always secure your vehicle, even if parking for brief periods
- Remove keys from the ignition
- Install a keypad lock which will disable the cart until the proper key code sequence is entered
- Use a steering wheel lock, pedal lock or chain to secure the cart when parked
