The heart wrenching and inspiring story of a special-needs rescue dog in Wisconsin is taking the nation by storm.
People Magazine selected Rex as a runner-up in their cutest rescue dog contest. Rex was born with a rare disorder that keeps him from using his front legs.
Rex was abandoned at a kill shelter in Texas when he was just a few weeks old.
Lucky, a rescue group found him and pulled him out of the shelter.
Burden and her family originally took Rex in as a foster pet, not expecting to keep him forever.
However, just six months later, he became a permanent part of their family.
Rex usually gets around using a special cart donated by Gunner’s Wheels Foundation. Despite his disability, he has no problem keeping up with the other dogs in the house.
Burden and Rex also visit elementary schools to teach children about overcoming obstacles, and Burden hopes People Magazine’s article featuring Rex will inspire others to adopt pets with disabilities.
