Southwest Airlines restricts emotional support animals to 1 dog or cat

(WSYR) — Starting next month, if you want to bring an emotional support animal on a Southwest flight — it can only be a cat or dog.

Southwest passengers will need to present a letter from a doctor and the animal must be on a leash or in a carrier.

Similar rules go into effect for trained service animals — only dogs, cats, and miniature horses will be allowed to fly. Only one dog, cat, or miniature horse will be allowed per customer.

Since the beginning of the year, American, JetBlue, Delta, and United have all introduced similar policies.

The police will take effect on Sept. 17.
