SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The flag at South San Francisco’s City Hall is flying at half staff on Friday in honor of Hayward police Sergeant Scott Lunger and the five service members killed in at military facilities last week in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

“Our hearts go out to all of the families and communities involved in these senseless tragedies,” says Mayor Richard Garbarino. “It’s time for us to gather as a community and show our respect to all those that serve our country and citizens on a daily basis.”

In addition to City Hall, the flags were lowered at all of the city’s other public buildings.

48-year-old Sgt. Lunger was fatally shot during a traffic stop early morning on Wednesday in Hayward. The 15-year veteran of the Hayward police force leaves behind two daughters.

Last week’s shooting at military facilities in Chattanooga claimed the lives of four marines and a navy sailor.

South San Francisco’s flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset Saturday, city officials said.
