SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — Police in South San Francisco said they arrested a man late Friday night, who they said was on the Department of Motor Vehicle’s “DUI Hot List,” a list of drivers with repeat offenses related to driving under the influence.

An officer stopped a vehicle at about 11:45 p.m. near Hickey Boulevard and Camaritas Avenue for an equipment violation, police said.

Upon conducting the stop, the officer found that the driver, Daniel Louis Hunt, 53, of South San Francisco, had a suspended driver’s license, according to police. Police said they also found Hunt to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Hunt had his license suspended because of two previous D.U.I. convictions, police said.

The two convictions placed him on the DMV’s DUI Hot List, a program that identifies drivers with multiple two-point driving convictions, multiple DUI convictions and/or multiple convictions for driving with a suspended driver’s license, police said.

Police arrested Hunt and towed and impounded his vehicle.

Police said that according to studies and research conducted by the DMV 75 percent of drivers who are convicted of DUI continue to drive despite having a suspended or revoked driver’s license.
