SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—A South San Francisco police officer is recovering Sunday night after being struck in the head with a skateboard.

KRON4’s Stanley Roberts visited Officer Robby Chon in the hospital.

Stanley took pictures with Chon’s wife, family, and his friends.

Chon’s condition is improving.

Chon was able to give Stanley a thumbs up.

The incident happened Friday afternoon on Grand Avenue.

Police say a citizen waved down the officer about a disturbance at a nearby business.

When Chon approached the suspect, the suspect sped off on his skateboard.

After a short foot chase, the suspect hit the Chon in the head with the board.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
