Sonoma driver arrested for DUI after crash injuring passenger

SONOMA CO. (BCN) — A Forestville woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI this morning after a crash in Sonoma County that seriously injured a passenger in her car, the California Highway Patrol said.

Haylee Sternberg, 23, was driving a 2000 Mercury Villager west on River Road at Old Trenton Road near Forestville when the vehicle went off the south side of the road and overturned in a ditch around 12:04 a.m., the CHP said.

A witness helped Sternberg out of the vehicle, but a 25-year-old Healdsburg woman was trapped in the passenger seat, the CHP said.

Firefighters from Forestville and the Russian River Fire Protection District responded and extricated the passenger from the car. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, the CHP said.

Sternberg was arrested at the scene for felony DUI and was medically cleared before she was booked in the Sonoma County Jail, the CHP said. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Sonoma County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.
