A son is accused of killing his mother in Brentwood on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police say as they were investigating burglaries in a Brentwood neighborhood, they arrested 29-year-old Matthew Redmond in the death of his mother.

Officers responded to Chaucer Drive at around 10:30 a.m. on reports of attempted car burglaries or a possible home burglary. That’s when police caught up with Redmond at the scene, police said.

Police say Redmond initially cooperated with police but then become uncooperative at police headquarters.

After an investigation, police did a welfare check on Redmond’s mother’s home on Torrington Drive, where they found her dead on the bathroom floor. Officer said she was the victim of a violent assault.

Redmond is being charged with the murder of his mother, police said.

The cause of the death has not been determined.

No weapons were found at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Marta Redmond.
