Some San Francisco Catholics call for ouster of archbishop

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – San Francisco Bay Area Catholics have gone public with their complaints about the San Francisco archbishop,

Thursday that more than 100 Catholics have signed a full page newspaper advertisement asking Pope Francis to remove Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.

Many disagree and are upset with Cordileone’s stance on traditional Catholic ideals.

Cordileone’s has called for teachers and staff members at four high schools within the archdiocese to accept contract and handbook language against homosexuality, same-sex marriage, abortion, contraceptives and artificial insemination.

Among those who signed the petition are former political consultant and San Francisco mayoral candidate Clint Reilly and his wife Janet.

In response, the archdiocese argued the ad, published in Thursday’s San Francisco Chronicle, does not reflect the city’s entire Catholic community.
