FRESNO (KSEE) — Some students will face disciplinary action after a huge fight broke out late Friday night after a football game between Edison and Central High Schools that was held at Ratcliffe Stadium on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno, causing part of the street to be shut down.
Some students that took part in the fight have been identified, and are being told not to attend future games, according to Fresno Unified Superintendent Bob Nelson. Officials for Central High say they weren’t able to identify any students that took part in the fight. “We had an unfortunate incident involving some of the spectators at the venue”, according to Nelson.
Video shows some of the people involved kicking cars. Superintendent Nelson says they believe most of the people involved in the fracas were not students. But the ones who are, and who were identified are facing consequences. “Any major sporting event there can be spectators who choose to make poor decisions, if our students are involved we hold them accountable to the greatest degree possible”, says Nelson.
Police say several student resource officers are usually at all high school football games. ” In this case again there were six of them at that high school football game, big football game so more resources were needed”, said Lt. Mark Hudson of the Fresno Police Department.
Nelson says they’re now working with other districts to make sure there’s not a repeat of Friday’s free for all, and is grateful for the police presence “In this case again there were six of them at that high school football game, big football game so more resources were needed”.
