SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — This Sunday, Oakland’s Oracle Arena will host a “winner-take-all” title bout between the Golden State Warriors, the league’s winningest team in history, against LeBron James, who promised to win Cleveland Cavaliers’ first championship.
But it seems all anyone is talking about isn’t how the century’s biggest NBA Finals finale will play out, it’s actually all about the drama unfolding off the court.
Earlier in the week, James complained to reporters that Draymond Green’s trash talk crossed the line during the Warrior’s Game 4 win. Splash Bros. Klay Thompson stoked the fire when he told reporters that James had his feelings hurt by all the man’s language used on the court.
Then, with Golden State up 3-1 in the series, James willed his team to consecutive wins in Games 5 and 6.
The fire grew out of control when in the last four minutes of Thursday’s Game 6, Stephen Curry fouled out — a career first — then got ejected after launching his mouthpiece at a fan, albeit inadvertently. Coincidentally, James was near the ruckus on the court and appeared to mouth a few words in Curry’s direction.
With Curry out and the Dubs down by 12 points, his wife Ayesha posted a tweet accusing the NBA of rigging the series.
She later deleted the tweet, but it resurfaced as a screen grab and meme which quickly catapulted Ayesha to the top of Twitter’s trending topics.
On Friday morning, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith weighed in on her tweets saying she “stepped out of line, stepped out of pocket.”
He went on to compare Ayesha to James’ wife Savannah, even going at length to talk about her looks.
“As beautiful as everyone wants to say Ayesha Curry is, Savannah is something special, she doesn’t bring any attention to herself, she thinks about how she represents him and as a result she doesn’t do that.”
“If this were Savannah acting like this do you know how much heat LeBron James would have taken? I’ll leave it at that.”
Within moments, Ayesha’s Army erupted in a full court press on Smith. Here’s a recap of how it went down…
