A small plane carrying two people made an emergency landing on westbound Interstate 580 in San Leandro Saturday night.
According to CHP, the single-engine Cessna 172 landed at 6:47 p.m. just before the 164th exit.
The aircraft departed from Lake Tahoe and was heading to Hayward Executive Airport when the pilot noticed something was wrong.
The fuel line had snapped, causing the plane’s engine to stop.
The pilot, who’s from the United Kingdom, immediately reached out to air traffic control.
Traffic controllers helped him find an area not heavily populated to land.
He said he choose a stretch of the highway that wasn’t busy and landed the plane, just four miles from the airport.
Miraculously, the pilot and his female passenger walked away unscathed.
No bystanders were hurt and there were no reports of vehicle damage.
