A man was shot and killed Sunday morning at an alleged cockfighting ranch in Petaluma, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. 

The shooting happened in the 6500 block of Lakeville Highway sometime Sunday morning, deputies said. 

Deputies responded at around 11:30 a.m. to Petaluma Valley Hospital after a gunshot victim was brought to the hospital. 

The victim’s three family members brought him to the hospital in a pickup truck, deputies said. 

Deputies say the family members were not cooperative at first. 

Deputies eventually learned that the victim was shot on a ranch with cockfighting events, according to authorities. 

At the least person opened fire and the victim was shot at least once in the neck of upper check area.

The victim was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital because his injuries were life-threatening. He was pronounced dead at shortly after arriving.

Detectives are actively investigating the case. 

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
