SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—The San Francisco Police Department accepted an award Saturday from the Autism Asperger Spectrum Coalition for Education, Networking & Development honoring the department for its Autism awareness training video.

The video was produced by the SFPD Academy.

It aims to help police officers understand the signs of Autism and how to interact with people who have the disorder.

“In making this video, we were hoping to give our officers an extra tool to recognize some of the traits of individuals who are on the autism spectrum,” said Commander Moser. “One of the most powerful pieces of the video is actually seeing those traits and hearing members of the autism community speak about the traits.”

The department said it is honored by the award as it continues to educate officers and develop strong relationships throughout the community.
