SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco police officers rescued a black Labrador that was found alone inside a hot car Sunday afternoon, and now the pet’s owner is in the dog house.

Officers with the department’s Richmond Station spotted the dog inside the car. The windows were cracked open, but the ‎car’s interior was described as being hot, according to a police official.

“Officers found a door unlocked and let the dog out of the car,” said police spokesperson Sgt. Michael Andraychak. “The dog drank lots of water upon being let out of car.” ‎

The owner returned to the car and was cited, Andraychak said. The dog was taken by Animal Care and Control, and now the owner will have to appear at a hearing in order to retrieve his dog.

The dog, who goes by “Thor,” showed lots of love and very friendly, Andraychak said.
