A San Francisco construction worker who was hit by a steel beam while working the Twin Peaks Tunnel project Friday afternoon has died, according to officials.
The worker, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to the hospital after being hit.
On Saturday Mayor London Breed issued a statement regarding the worker’s death:
“We are saddened to hear about the passing of a signal technician who was working in the Twin Peaks Tunnel yesterday evening. Our sincerest condolences are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this time.
This is a tragic incident and I want to commend the Twin Peaks Tunnel laborers who quickly sprang into action to help their colleague.”
Mayor Breed said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the San Francisco Police Department are conducting a full investigation.
At this time, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has stopped work on the project until further notice.
