Senator Kamala Harris’ campaign launch rally is set to start in front of City Hall in Oakland at 12:45 p.m.
The perimeter is already all set up with road closures, police and secret service scattered along the streets.
Last week Senator Harris announced she is running for president in 2020. She was born in Oakland which is why she’s holding her campaign launch here.
She is joined by fellow Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.
The theme of Harris’s campaign is Kamala Harris For The People.
Harris has served as a prosecutor, District Attorney of San Francisco, and Attorney General of California.
During her announcement, she said the time has come to fight against what she views as the injustices of the past two years of Trump presidency.
Thousands of people are expected to come out to Oakland for the rally.
BART will be impacted and riders are encouraged to use the 19th Street Station.
These streets of Oakland will be closed starting at 7 a.m.:
- Broadway from 12th to 17th streets—partial closure until 10 am, then full closure
- Telegraph from 15th to 17th streets
- Clay St. from 14th to 17th streets
- 14th Street from Franklin to Jefferson
- 15th Street from Franklin to Broadway
