WASHINGTON D.C. (KRON) — U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer is retiring at the end of her current term.
A spokesperson for the Senator says she will not seek re-election in 2016.
Boxer has been in the Senate since 1992. Before that she served in the U.S. Congress and as a Marin County Supervisor.
The announcement is likely to set off a frenzy of speculation among both Republicans and Democrats seeking to replace her in the U.S. Senate.
