STATELINE, Nev. (AP) — Congress is moving closer to spending hundreds of millions of dollars to further restore and protect Lake Tahoe over the next 10 years.
On a 95-3 vote, the Senate approved and sent to the House Thursday a measure that would spend $10 billion on water quality projects nationwide over the next decade, including $415 million for the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act.
The action comes two weeks after President Obama made his first trip to Lake Tahoe with an impassioned plea about the inseparable link between the region’s economy and its environment.
Among other things, the bill includes money for projects to improve water quality, reduce wildfire threats, combat aquatic invasive species and improve public transit systems.
