A new bill proposed on Wednesday would make selling your DMV appointment against the law.
Assembly Bill 317, would make it illegal to sell, or offer to sell, an appointment with the DMV.
The law would apply to people, firms, corporations, or associations.
If passed, those caught selling or offering to sell apointments would be charged with a misdemeanor and face a fine up to $2,500.
The money would get deposited into the State Transportation Fund.
Earlier this year Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a comprehensive modernization and reinvention of the DMV, creating a task force to address several areas including transparency, worker performance, speed of service, and overall consumer satisfaction.
