GILROY (KRON) — Gilroy Police have made a second arrest in the February 16 murder of 56-year-old Robert Joseph Heiser.
Police served an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Rodrigo Berjarano of San Jose.
Berjano was already in the Santa Clara jail on an unrelated case when he was arrested.
Just a week after Heiser’s death, arrested 19-year-old Gabriela Bernice Ortiz of San Jose.
She was one of two women believed to have been seen on surveillance video using Heiser’s credit card at an East San Jose convenience store the day.
The other woman was identifued as 17-year-old Isabella Chaidez, also of San Jose.
She is still at large.
Gilroy Police were called in the early morning of February 16, after a neighbor called in a complaint about barking dogs near Heiser’s house in the 1400 block of Bay Tree Drive.
When police arrived, they found Heiser unconscious inside the house.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no signs of a violent death, but his death was deemed suspicious because the dogs were barking before his body was found.
Just two days later, on February 18, police released surveillance video taken at the convenience store on White Road early in the morning of Feb. 16.
Police said the video showed Ortiz and Chaidez walking into the store and then using Heiser’s credit card to purchase some items there.
According to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office, the results of an autopsy on Heiser’s body has not been cleared
for release by Gilroy police.
