SAUSALITO (KRON) — Police in Sausalito are warning residents of an increase in crimes targeting cars.
The Sausalito Police Department have taken 28 reports of auto burglaries, thefts from vehicles, and stolen vehicles since Jan. 1, 2016, according to the department.
The crimes have occurred at various places throughout Sausalito. Residential areas in the hills have reported an increase in activity.
Most thefts happen at night and during the early morning hours, police said.
The suspects are targeting cars with items that are visible from the outside. The suspects are ransacking the cars and stealing items of value that can be removed quickly, according to police.
Police say several other communities in the Bay Area have seen an increase in crimes against vehicles over the last two years.
Tips to prevent these crimes:
- Take all valuables out of vehicles.
- Close/lock your vehicles doors.
- Roll up your vehicle’s windows.
