SAUSALITO (BCN) — Sausalito police arrested a Daly City woman Thursday and are looking for her mother in connection with the theft of more than $200,000 from an elderly Sausalito woman.
Police arrested Fatima Medina-Fernandez, 31, the alleged victim’s caregiver, on suspicion of stealing the money from the 94-year-old woman’s bank account over two years, police said.
Police are still looking for Martha Fernandez, 52, Medina-Fernandez’s mother, who also was the elderly victim’s caregiver when the thefts occurred.
The caregivers’ employment was terminated when the thefts were discovered in May 2013 after suspicious bank transactions were detected by a Charles Schwab fraud investigator, police said. Police got arrest warrants for both women in August 2014.
Police learned Medina-Fernandez moved from San Francisco to Daly City where she was arrested Thursday at 10:42 p.m. Medina-Fernandez is being held under $200,000 bail in the Marin County Jail under burglary and theft from an elder or dependant adult felony charges.
Anyone with information about Martha Fernandez is asked to call Sausalito police detective Nick White at (415) 289-4170 or at nwhite@ci.sausalito.ca.us.
