SANTA ROSA (KRON) — A 21-year-old man was shot in the head late Sunday night, according to Santa Rosa police.
Around 11:57 p.m. the Santa Rosa Police Department received a report of a shooting victim in the 800 block of West Avenue, police said.
When officers arrived, they found the young man with a gunshot wound to his head.
The victim had been driving in the area of West Avenue when he pulled off to the side of the road.
He was still sitting in his car when another car full of male suspects drove by. One suspect fired an entire round from an unknown type of gun, striking the victim in the head.
He was able to drive away from the area as the suspects fled.
His injuries were not life-threatening, and he was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
Police are not releasing the victim’s name due to the violent nature of the crime, and the fact that the suspects have not been identified.
The Santa Rosa Police Department Gang Crimes Team was notified and took over the investigation, police said.
