SANTA ROSA (BCN) — Santa Rosa police arrested a transient for the murder of another transient who died five days after the two had a fight Saturday night near downtown Santa Rosa, a police sergeant said.

Police found Joshua William Clark, 37, with face and head injuries at Rae Park at 28 Rae St. around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Josh Ludtke said.

Clark was taken to Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center but his condition worsened and he was transferred to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Ludtke said.

Violent crimes detectives found Thomas Jonathan Borbeck, 20, an area transient, in the Rae Park area and determined Borbeck struck Clark multiple times in the head and face during a fight, Ludtke said.

Borbeck was arrested for assault causing great bodily injury and was booked in the Sonoma County Jail Saturday night.

Police learned Thursday that Clark succumbed to his injuries, and Borbeck was arrested for murder. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Sonoma County Superior on the murder charge.

Police believe the two men knew each other and they are investigating what the argument was about, Ludtke said.
