SANTA ROSA — A mother was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday for crashing her car in Santa Rosa and seriously injuring her two children while on drugs last year, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.

The crash happened the afternoon of April 14, 2014, when Christina Ann Curtis, 30, crashed her truck into a pole at the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and First Street.

Neither of her 8- and 10-year-old children were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and both were knocked unconscious.

One of the children lost five front teeth and suffered a fractured jaw, requiring surgery.

Santa Rosa police discovered Curtis was under the influence of hydrocodone, methadone and methamphetamine when she crashed the truck. She was arrested.

Curtis pleaded no contest on May 6 to driving under the influence of a drug causing great bodily injury, child endangerment, driving on a suspended license and possession of methamphetamine. Judge Gary Medvigy

handed down the seven-year sentence Tuesday.

“This case is a tragic example of the danger everyone faces by those who make the choice to drive under the influence of drugs,” District Attorney Jill Ravitch said in a statement.
