SANTA CLARA (KRON) — Santa Clara police have arrested a 57-year-old man accused of stabbing a man in his apartment, police said.

The alleged stabbing happened at around 6:49 p.m. Tuesday at the 3500 block of Agate Drive, police said. When officers arrived, they found that a man was stabbed multiple times inside the apartment.

The suspect, 57-year-old Alan Dean West, of Santa Clara, then retreated to his apartment after the stabbing, according to Lt. Kurt Clarke.

After 4 hours of negotiating with the suspect, gas was used to take West into custody, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries, which are considered non-life-threatening.

West was booked into jail for burglary and attempted murder, Clarke said.

He will be arraigned in court on Friday.
