SANTA CLARA CO. (KRON/BCN) — A commuter train struck a pedestrian on the tracks near a station in San Jose this evening, but the victim survived and was walking around shortly afterward, according to Caltrain officials Thursday.
Caltrain officials announced the incident via Twitter at 7:42 p.m., saying that southbound train No. 278 had experienced “low speed contact,” and trains were single-tracking through the area near the Santa Clara station.
The train stopped at the College Park station in San Jose until it was released by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office around 8 p.m., roughly 40 minutes behind schedule, according to Caltrain officials.Both tracks had been opened and cleared for full-speed travel by 8:04 p.m.
