San Mateo Bridge to close for two weekends

SAN MATEO (KRON) — Starting Friday at 10 p.m., the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge will close for two full weekends, as crews resurface and treat the deck as well as perform maintenance work on the popular bridge.

The bridge will be closed in both directions from Friday, May 8 at 10 p.m. through Monday, May 11 at 5 a.m. Caltrans officials said that on Friday, westbound lane closures could start as early as 7 p.m. and eastbound lane closures as early as 8 p.m.

The bridge will follow the same closure schedule for Memorial Day weekend, May 22- May 25.

During the closure, Caltrans officials are asking people to be patient and use alternative routes to get around the bay. Those include the Dumbarton Bridge, the Bay Bridge, and the Highway 237.

Once the closure of the Highway 92 is in effect, all eastbound drivers will be forced to exit at Foster City Boulevard and westbound drivers, Clawiter Road.

According to Caltrans officials, the on-ramps from Edgewater Boulevard and Metro Center Boulevard in the eastbound direction in Foster City will be closed. In the westbound direction in Hayward, the on-ramps from Industrial Boulevard and Clawiter Road will also be closed.

Caltrans officials said changeable message signs have been posted throughout the Bay Area to notify motorists of the upcoming closures.
