SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — San Leandro police have identified two suspects and arrested one in connection with a rolling gunbattle in November that wounded one suspect and an injured an elderly couple, police said Wednesday.
The two suspects were identified as Davlon Harris, a 33-year-old Oakland resident who was arrested just after the November shootout but only publicly identified Wednesday, and Marcus Jones, a 32-year-old man with ties to Oakland and San Leandro who was arrested Tuesday.
San Leandro police led a 3-month long investigation to arrest an outstanding suspect Tuesday, who had been involved in a rolling gun battle.
Jones was arrested at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Thrush Avenue.
Police had previously determined Jones’ identity and obtained a warrant for his arrest, but he eluded capture until detectives saw him in a parking lot at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Thrush Avenue.
He was arrested without incident while carrying a handgun with an extended magazine.
A SWAT team then served a search warrant at Jones’ apartment in the complex and seized more than $250,000 in cash, 6 pounds of marijuana, an AK-47 assault rifle, three handguns with high capacity magazines, a ballistic vest and other evidence indicating the apartment was used for storing and packaging drugs, police said.
On Nov. 17, Jones was allegedly involved in a two-vehicle gunbattle that left an elderly couple hospitalized after being hit head on by one of the two suspects.
One suspect was arrested in November.
As the occupants of two cars exchanged gunfire, one of the cars, a Nissan allegedly driven by Harris, crashed head-on into an elderly couple’s Toyota Prius in the 300 block of Dowling Boulevard.
The couple was seriously injured in the crash and while they have been released from the hospital, they are still coping with long-term complications from their injuries, police said Wednesday.
Harris had apparently been shot and was found near the crash scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and was later arrested on charges related to the shootout and reckless driving, police said.
Police said Wednesday that Harris is out of custody on $200,000 bail and set to return to court on March 23 in Hayward.
The driver of the other vehicle, a dark van that turned out to be rented, fled the area and remained at large until this week when he was identified as Jones. Jones is in custody without bail and is set to appear in court in Hayward for arraignment on Thursday.
