SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — San Leandro police said Thursday they recovered three loaded guns since last weekend.
Police said someone used one of those guns to accidentally shoot himself.
The first incident occurred at 10:05 p.m. Sunday near a Walgreen’s store in the 15500 block of Washington Avenue.
Police said officers stopped a vehicle leaving the Walgreens parking lot without its headlights on that pulled onto Tropic Court.
An officer approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, identified by police as 23-year-old Nadine Palomino of Union City, before a second officer arrived and saw a 30-round magazine of a loaded MAC-11 pistol sticking out from an area behind the driver’s seat.
Police said Palomino was arrested without incident. Upon further investigation, officers found the pistol loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition, illegal narcotics, as well as several bullet holes on the car covered with pieces of duct tape.
Palomino is being held at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of possessing an illegal firearm as well as several drug-related offenses.
The second incident occurred at 1:15 a.m. Monday when officers responded to reports of a man being treated at San Leandro Hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his leg.
The man told police that he had recently been to a gun range and forgot that he left his loaded pistol in his car. Police said when the man retrieved his gun from its storage case, it fell and accidentally fired, striking him in the leg.
The man was cooperative in the investigation and police determined the shooting was accidental and not criminal in nature. No charges will be sought against the man, who is recovering from his wound.
The third incident occurred at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of East 14th Street, where officers stopped a luxury vehicle for an unspecified traffic violation, according to police.
During the stop, officers discovered a loaded Glock .40-caliber pistol with a loaded 30-round magazine in it stowed in the front passenger door pocket, police said.
Police said if possessed for legal transport, the pistol can only have a 10-round magazine.
Three men were arrested in the incident on suspicion of possession of a loaded, concealed firearm as well as several drug offenses.
An investigation is underway and no other details were immediately released.
