SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — Two men are behind bars in connection with last week’s Bayfair Center shooting.

Police have arrested 22-year-old James Williams and an unidentified minor. Police searched Williams’ house Wednesday and found several firearms, including an assault rifle, many of them with 30-round magazines.

Officers found the teen Thursday afternoon with a semi-automatic pistol containing a 30-round magazine.

The shooting happened in the mall’s parking lot on Jan. 14 at around 6:40 p.m., just outside the Old Navy and Bed Bath and Beyond stores last Thursday.

Officials said there was an exchange of gunfire between a car and two men outside. The shooting is not believed to be random, Lt. Robert McManus said.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The suspects all fled the scene before police arrived, with the suspects on foot fleeing into the mall.

Two men were detained and interviewed by police after a search of the mall, but those men were determined to be only witnesses. One was released Thursday night but the other man was held on an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant.

Police said they will release further details on the arrests Friday morning.Bay City News Service
