SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — Police arrested a man in San Leandro Friday night for suspicion of driving under the influence and a hit-and-run.

Police were dispatched to the area of Wicks Boulevard near Burkhart Avenue around 11:35 p.m. Friday night, after receiving word of a vehicle colliding into a fire hydrant, PG&E power pole and an AC Transit bus bench.

According to the San Leandro police, the driver fled the scene, and asked the public to stay away from the area due to potential danger.

Police said, they discovered flooding water from the hydrant and an active “downed” power line near the water.

The collision caused a power outage that affected many Washington Manor residents, and PG&E crews were on the scene until 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening finishing up repairs.

While on the scene two San Leandro residents approached the officers and identified themselves as the owners of the vehicle. After investigation officers arrested a 30-year-old male suspect.

Criminal charges cannot be filed until the district attorney has reviewed the investigation.
