SAN LEANDRO — The suspects in a home invasion robbery and shooting in San Leandro early Thursday morning are still at large, police said today.

Investigators believe that the home in the 2100 block of Lakeview Drive was targeted in the incident at about 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, acting Lt. Ted Henderson said.

A 68-year-old man who lives at the house was shot in his upper torso but his injuries aren’t life-threatening and he’s recovering at a local hospital, Henderson said.

The victim tried to shoot at the robbers but the shotgun he armed himself with wasn’t loaded, according to Henderson.

The man, his wife and a relative from Texas were inside the house when at least two robbers broke in, Henderson said.

After the man was shot, the robbers fled with the relative’s wallet, took $400 in cash from the wallet and then discarded it nearby, according to Henderson.

One of the victims told police that there might have been a third suspect but that’s not confirmed, Henderson said.

Police said the suspects are two men in their early 20s.

Henderson said police are reviewing video surveillance recordings from nearby homes to try to identify the suspects and will release images to the news media by Monday at the latest.
