Evacuated or chased from their homes by a wildfire, many residents find themselves lacking even the most basic necessities, like toiletries, infant formula, and sunblock.

Those are among the items being donated in response to a plea for help by a South Bay woman who is organizing a relief effort for victims of the car fire.

“The turnout is just amazing,” Relief effort organizers Jamie Bruck said.

After reaching out to friends on Facebook on Saturday, Bruck is now accepting fire relief donation donations here at an office park at 910 Bern Ct. in San Jose.

She has done this before for people in need but this time it’s personal.

“I have family that was directly affected by the fire, so I thought I’d get out there and help any way I could,” Bruck said.

Bruck says what’s needed most are everyday supplies like toiletries, diapers, other baby needs, dog and cat food, sunblock, energy drinks, and masks to help guard against all that smoke.

Bruck says her grandmother, whose home is lost to the fire, escaped with virtually nothing.

‘Just the clothes on her back and a box of important papers,” Bruck said. “I assume most families had the same amount of time.”

Bruck and her team are also accepting donations in Pleasanton and Livermore.

They are planning a convoy to deliver the donations to people in the Redding area on Wednesday.

“It’s mostly a lot of mommy mobiles,” Bruck said. “There’s one gentleman coming, but mostly, it’s a bunch of moms that are going, and we’ve got trailers that are ready to go.”

4 p.m. was the deadline for donations at the San Jose location, but Bruck’s team will be accepting donations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street Designs, located at 2196 First St. in Livermore and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 7506 Rosedale Ct. in Pleasanton.
