The San Jose Sharks are suing the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority over a project to expand BART into downtown San Jose.
The lawsuit was filed on Thursday. The owner of the Sharks is asking the VTA to stop their plans of construction immediately.
The Sharks are marking their territory. They’re not only up against the Golden Knights in Las Vegas for the playoffs, but they’re also facing VTA in court.
The Sharks filed a lawsuit Thursday demanding the VTA stop expansion plans of the Diridon BART Station
The Sharks tell KRON4 in a statement “we strongly support the BART project through downtown San Jose but we don’t think the current plan addresses several important issues for SAP Center.”
Important issues like adequate parking–the Diridon Station is a block away from the SAP Center
The construction would take up hundreds of parking spots.
“It’s so convenient, it drops me off right here, right across the street. Go home,” Sharks fan Rick Cordeilo said.
Cordeilo is for the construction plan.
He takes the train from Santa Cruz to watch the Sharks game.
“Well, I think it’s pretty sad,” Cordeilo said. “It’s all about the mighty dollars, why you know they’re upset. Because taking dollars away from them, but you know, it’s only a temporary thing. So, get over it.”
Though the Sharks say they did not take this decision lightly and have been pushing the VTA for more than two years to work out issues, a spokesperson from BART told KRON4 this is VTA’s project.
BART is only listed as an interested party because they will have to operate the service.
A spokesperson from VTA says they will not be giving on-camera interviews but will have a statement out soon.
