SAN JOSE (KRON) — San Jose police have arrested a man connected to a fatal hit-and-run of a bicyclist last Friday, according to Ofc. Albert Morales.

Police arrested 23-year-old Christopher Africa of San Jose on Wednesday in the fatal hit-and-run death that killed Toedoro Arredando-Diaz, 44, of San Jose.

The fatal collision happened around 12:10 a.m. on Winchester Boulevard and Loma Verde Drive, according to the San Jose Police Department.

Responding officers found a man, later identified as Arredando-Diaz, who was on a bicycle suffering from serious injuries, authorities said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated the suspect driver, Africa, struck the bicyclist, then drove away north on Winchester Boulevard, according to police.

Police recovered the suspect vehicle after receiving a call from the owner at Victor’s Taqueria. The caller reported a badly damaged car parked behind the restaurant located at 844 S Winchester Blvd., less than a mile from the scene of the accident.

Police arrested Africa at his home. He has been booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
