SAN JOSE (KRON) — A 29-year-old Kingsburg man was hit and killed by a car Thursday evening in San Jose, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said Friday afternoon.

The driver was in a 2007 Porsche vehicle that was on the transition ramp from southbound Highway 87 to northbound Highway 85 and saw a pedestrian at the center median, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

It’s unclear why the pedestrian ran across the lanes as the driver was merging to Highway 85 and was struck by the vehicle, Lee said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lee.

The driver, a 45-year-old San Jose man, was not injured and cooperated with investigators.

There is no evidence that drugs and alcohol were a factor in the collision.

Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office have not identified the pedestrian, until his next of kin is notified.
