SAN JOSE (KRON) — A suspect in two alleged attempted sexual assaults in San Jose was arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court Tuesday and faces life in prison.
Mohammad Khaliqi, 31, was arraigned on one felony count of assault with the intent to commit rape, one felony count of assault to commit rape and two felony counts of false imprisonment.
The two attacked happened a month apart. The attack on a 13-year-old girl in her home was caught on the home’s surveillance system. In the video, you can see Khaliqi follow the girl home, knock on her door, then force his way in, attacking her and pushing her to the ground.VIDEO OF THE ATTACK
Khaliqi appeared in court before Judge Diane Northway and opted not to enter a plea.
While Khaliqi remains in custody without bail, Northway issued two protective orders, which is standard in sexual assault cases, according to Deputy District Attorney Bret Wasley.
“In case bail is eventually set in a case like this, these protective orders prevent him from having any contact, directly or indirectly, coming within 100 yards of either of these two victims,” Wasley said outside court today.
The attack on April 2nd happened when Khaliqi allegedly entered a Mitsuwa Marketplace located at 675 Saratoga Ave and followed a 28-year-old woman into a public restroom where he attempted to sexually assault her, according to police.WATCH INTERVIEW WITH THE VICTIM
he fled before police arrived, but was caught on store’s surveillance cameras.
“These are the actions of a brazen predator and it’s a terrifying case,” Wasley said.
Police released all the footage of Khaliqi which lead to his arrest in San Leandro.
Khaliqi was assigned a public defender and is scheduled for a plea hearing on May 19th.
