SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—The U.S. Department of Justice sentenced a San Jose resident to eight years in prison Wednesday for trying to engage in illicit sexual conduct while traveling, obstruction of justice and attempted witness tampering.

A jury found Michael Lindsey, 56, traveled from San Francisco to Manila, Philippines to have sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Lindsey is accused of contacting the girl’s mother and arranging for places where he could have sex with the teenager.

Lindsay allegedly went to the Philippines in May and August 2012 and paid the girl’s mother after he had sex with her.

Homeland Security Investigations arrested the San Jose Man at San Francisco International Airport when he tried boarding a flight to the Philippines again in November 2012.

The judge in the case ordered for Lindsay to have a five-year supervised release after he serves his jail sentence.

Lindsay will also be required to register as a sex offender.
