San Jose man killed in DUI hit-and-run

FRESNO (KRON) — A San Jose man died in a head-on DUI collision Sunday night in Fresno County, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash was reported at 8:30 p.m. on Highway 180, east of San Benito Avenue.

Ildo Correia, 58, was a passenger in a 2010 Nissan that was traveling east on the highway.

He was killed after a 2003 Mitsubishi allegedly crossed the double yellow lines on state Highway 180 and hit the Nissan.

The Mitsubishi was driven by 34-year-old Narciso Mejia.

CHP officials allege that Mejia was intoxicated while driving.

Mejia allegedly fled after the collision, but was caught by officers.

Correia, a passenger in the Nissan, died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan and another passenger were injured and were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
