SAN JOSE (KRON)—We are a few days away from Thanksgiving and food donations are pouring in.

Second Harvest in San Jose serves one out of every 10 people in both San Mateo and Santa Clara counties

As KRON4’s Alecia Reid reports, while donations have come in, they still need more. Click here to donate

The donations kept rolling in.

For some families, it has become a growing tradition.

“This is like our 4th or 5th year,” one man said. “Every year it feels a little bit better and you start looking forward to it. Now we bring our nephews.”

It is the season for giving.

“Either a child’s home or old folks home or people on the street, so we always do it every year,” one man working with Second Harvest said

Second Harvest has a goal of getting 19,000 turkeys, so trucks can start delivering to pantries on Monday.

“We are seeing people coming out and showing their generosity and it’s so wonderful,” one woman with Second Harvest said.

The food bank isn’t only taking food, but cash is also welcome.

Our cameras spotted little ones taking part in giving back.

“This is a nice way to make a donation and have a little fun with it,” one man said.

“Try to draw a turkey then I put open me up and a $20 bill because that’s what’s inside,” one girl said.

Every dollar counts.

“For a $25 donation we can serve 50 meals,” a Second Harvest worker said.

Second Harvest is still short on monetary donations. The food bank depends heavily on the money it gets throughout the holiday season to last throughout the year.
