SAN JOSE (BCN, KRON) — You will definitely not be alone if you are traveling this Thanksgiving holiday. An increase in travelers is expected at Mineta San Jose International Airport heading to-and-from holiday destinations in the next 12 days.
Starting Friday through Dec. 1, airport officials expect to serve 370,000 travelers and see 5 percent more passenger traffic compared to the same time period last year.
The busiest travel days are today and Saturday and then next weekend, airport officials said.RELATED: Don’t let the airlines lose your suitcase this Thanksgiving
Most people are expected to travel from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to airport officials.
Travelers are advised to anticipate longer lines at check-in counters and screening checkpoints, airport officials said.
Passengers are asked to check-in online, print their boarding pass ahead of time and to heed rules on what to pack from the Transportation Security Administration, airport officials said. Anyone on a domestic flight should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure and two hours for any trips to Hawaii or international destinations.
Travelers can leave their car behind at a parking lot in exchange for paying a daily fee, but should have a backup plan as spots can quickly fill up, according to airport officials.
At Oakland International Airport, a spokesperson said the airport expects to see 388,000 Thanksgiving travelers this year (from Nov. 20 to Nov. 30). That is up 9 percent from 2014, the airport spokesperson said.
San Francisco International airport officials estimate 150,000 people will fly into and out of SFO Friday.
