SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On Monday night, Hollywood turned its spotlight north towards San Francisco where the city’s War Memorial Opera House hosted a Tinseltown-style red carpet premiere for one of TV’s hottest shows, “Game of Thrones.”
The event brought several members of the show’s cast and production staff to celebrate the “Game of Thrones” fifth season including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Emilia Clarke, and award-winning actors Peter Dinklage and Maisie Williams.
“We know ‘Game of Thrones’ has an incredibly passionate fan base in the Bay Area,” HBO spokeswoman Janine McGoldrick told the San Francisco Chronicle. “It makes sense that we’d bring the premiere to S.F. this year.”
And similar to last season, fans were encouraged to interact with the cast on Facebook’s live stream of the event.
“Fans will be able to participate in the real-time social media experience by submitting questions to the cast via Facebook (Facebook.com/GameofThrones) and Instagram (@GameofThrones), which will be answered by cast members from the red carpet from 6pm-7pm PST (9:00pm-10:00pm EST),” HBO said in a press release.
McGoldrick said that they wanted to bring the premiere to the Bay Area in part because of the regions ties to technology and Apple’s recent announcement of the company’s exclusive partnership with HBO and its upcoming stand-alone subscription service, HBO Now.
“The decision to do the ‘Game of Thrones’ premiere in San Francisco is tied to our announcement of HBO Now,” she said.
The service will launch in early April – “Game of Thrones” premieres April 12 on both HBO and HBO Now.
An after party is set to take place at City Hall after the premiere.
The award-winning drama, based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling fantasy novels from the series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” chronicles the violence and struggle between noble families vying for control of the Iron Throne.KRON 4 NEWS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW VIDEOS
