San Francisco’s Presidio Memorial Day event honors veterans

On this Memorial Day, there was a special ceremony in San Francisco held at the National Cemetery in the Presidio.

More than 4,000 World War II veterans were laid to rest at the cemetery.

Early in the morning, different groups placed flowers on grave sites.

At a ceremony, many dignitaries including San Francisco Mayor London Breed, the police and fire chief and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke.

“Here in San Francisco, many vets gave their dedication,” Breed said.

Several events including parades were held Monday nationwide and across the Bay Area.

Washington, D.C. is a focal point, with monuments such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as well as Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

San Francisco’s Presidio’s 151st Memorial Day event featured several things including a parade and cemetery tours.
