Mexico City authorities are investigating the death of a tourist from San Francisco killed by what appeared to be a stray bullet in a shooting at a taco restaurant in a wealthy capital neighborhood.
27-year-old Tatiana Mirutenko was leaving the restaurant early Saturday when gunmen aboard a motorcycle fired on a bouncer at an area bar. The man was wounded, but survived.
Authorities said in a statement later Saturday that Mirutenko was with her husband and two other friends at the restaurant in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood.
There was no indication the two victims knew each other.
The attackers escaped.
Mirutenko worked at Nektar in San Francisco. The company released a statement following news of her death:
It is with very heavy hearts that we received the devastating news about our Nektar team member and colleague Tatiana Mirutenko. Tatiana was a bright and passionate rising star on our Nektar Investor Relations team in San Francisco. She was always willing to help on any project across the company and had an incredibly strong work ethic. Many throughout Nektar, and outside the company, valued her positive energy, insight and sheer enthusiasm for life. She will be incredibly missed by all of us at Nektar Therapeutics.
