San Francisco Symphony entertained movie and music lovers with their recent performance featuring the light hearted Pixar film, Ratatouille.

The Symphony performed the Grammy Award-winning score, live, while the movie played on the big screen. A fun offering for the Summer Season, last weekend’s event delighted symphony guests of all ages, particularly kids, who got an enjoyable and accessible introduction to the symphony.

“We program our summer, holidays and film series with the idea of engaging people of all ages who may not be our typical Symphony audience”, said Edwin Outwater, Director of Summer Concerts at the SFS.

Ratatouille relives the story of Remy the optimistic rat with a calling to make delicious food. The symphony performance gave an element of grandeur to the animated film. Conducted by Sarah Hicks, the symphony faithfully rendered Michael Giacchino’s Grammy-winning score. Giacchino also scored the Pixar movies Cars and Up and the cult TV show Lost and the brand new Star Wars Beyond.

If you missed Ratatouille, don’t worry, there’s more cinema on the way. The symphony will be performing 2001: A Space Odyssey on October 14 and 15; On the Waterfront, January 8 and 9; Raiders of the Lost Ark, April 14 and 15; and Casablanca, June 2 and 3.
